Guidelines for laser surgery
Not everyone is suitable for laser vision correction. The following criteria need to be fulfilled:
- Minimum age of 21 years but no upper age limit
- A genuine need or wish to be more optically independent of glasses or contact lenses
- A stable glasses or contact lens prescription for at least 12 months prior to the procedure
- Lack of complicating disease states or injuries to eyes
- Myopia (short-sightedness) up to -10 dioptres with astigmatism up to -6 dioptres (range extended in special circumstances), or -10 dioptres sphere equivalent.
- Hypermetropia (long-sightedness) up to +5 dioptres with astigmatism up to -6 dioptres or, up to +5 dioptres sphere equivalent.
