Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a new medical diagnostic imaging technology which can perform high resolution cross-sectional imaging in tissues. The operation of the OCT is similar to ultrasound imaging except that light is used rather than sound or radio waves. OCT is especially suited for diagnostic applications in ophthalmology because of the ease of optical access to the front and back of the inside of the eye.
