Dr Simon Phipps

Consultant Ophthalmologist – MBBS, FRANZCO

  • Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists

Dr Simon Phipps joined Adelaide Eye & Laser Centre in October of 2006.  He brings with him subspecialty expertise in both glaucoma and refractive surgery.  He completed his general training in ophthalmology in Adelaide and in 2004 he undertook a 12 month fellowship in glaucoma at the world renowned Moorfield’s Eye Hospital in London.  Concerning this experience he states, “It was one of the most satisfying experiences of my professional life.  I had the opportunity to work alongside some of the world’s leading glaucoma clinicians and researchers.  I am keen to apply the knowledge and experience I gained to my patients in South Australia.”

From November of 2005 until September of 2006 Dr Phipps worked as a Fellow in corneal refractive surgery (LASIK and PRK) at the Gimbel Eye Centre in Calgary, Canada.  He states, “This was a big centre performing up to 5000 refractive procedures a year.  As a Fellow I had the opportunity to observe and perform numerous PRK and LASIK under the tutelage of some of Canada’s most experienced refractive surgeons.”

He believes the exciting aspect to being associated with Adelaide Eye & Laser Centre (AE&LC) is its commitment to bringing the latest in diagnostic and therapeutic technology to patient care.  AE&LC recently acquired the latest Allegretto laser which promises faster and more accurate treatment of refractive errors.  For glaucoma management AE&LC offers selective laser trabeculoplasty with the acquisition of a new laser. AE&LC has also purchased a stereoscopic digital optic nerve head imaging system which makes the diagnosis of early glaucoma more accurate and straightforward together with the “gold standard” in field testing equipment.
